The song that started it all

Do you remember the first song you truly loved? What song was it?

I started listening, really listening to the radio when I was 10 years old.  1980.   The first song that I really connected with was "While You See a Chance" by Steve Winwood in 1981.  There was something magical about opening keyboard with strings in the background.  And how it would build and then the chorus came in (no lyrics yet) and finally, Steve Winwood's voice. At the age of 10, I didn't understand or even pay attention to the words - I was all about the music.  Still am.

Now when I hear that song, I'm immediately taken back to my childhood.  I feel like I'm that 10 year old boy laying my back, on the floor of my bedroom, listening to FM radio.  I spent countless hours listening to music.  Music was my best friend and in many ways, it still is.  When I'm sad, happy, angry or confused, music is always there for me.

And "While You See a Chance" will always have a special place in my heart.  It makes me melancholy from note one.  Thank you Steve Winwood.
